With the international consumption of Korean contemporary media such as K-pop, dramas, and movies on the rise, what do these exports say about Korea? We explore how Korean music, television, and film creators reference the past to create their art. Utilizing a combination of lecture, discussions, and screenings, this course will provide educators with a framework of resources with which to examine topics with their students such as performing arts, literature, the division of the Korean peninsula, national heroes, and contemporary Korean society. Throughout the course, classroom activities workshops provide participants with curriculum materials. Teachers will collaborate to transfer their newfound knowledge to classroom practice, as well as design teaching materials that fit the diverse needs of their classrooms.
